coloWArs is a card game for two or more players, designed for short playtime and accessibility in the realm of party and family games.
In coloWArs, each player embodies a painter, wielding unique powers, in a quest to outwit their opponents and claim victory by optimizing their card play. The ultimate champion is the one who, when the game concludes, possesses the highest score determined by the cards in play.
The mechanics of coloWArs draw inspiration from the realm of color theory, a concept often taught in schools. It revolves around the 'primary colors': yellow, blue, and red, and their harmonious combinations, giving birth to 'secondary colors' like orange, green, and purple. Those familiar with the Itten color circle will instantly grasp the underlying principles, which extend to the usage of spells that manipulate colors themselves.
coloWArs strikes a harmonious balance between accessibility and depth, allowing players to swiftly master its rules. It caters to a wide audience, suitable for ages 8 and above. As players delve into the game, they'll uncover an array of strategies that can lead them to ultimate victory.

Finally published!
After years of testing and fine-tuning, our color theory-based card game is now available in print and play mode. We're not professional designers (as you can probably tell!), but we're two perfectionists. We spent far too much time tweaking pixel by pixel instead of getting it out to as many people as possible.
Now, with two kids who will soon learn to read, we’d love to have your help and constructive feedback to make the game more fun and engaging.
With the latest update, we’ve uploaded two versions of the card deck and the first painters:
- Foldable version, thanks to the brilliant Gina "foosel" Häußge and her outstanding creation CardFoldr – it's ready to print in 20 pages.
- Standard version for those who want to save paper and ink – just 9 pages for the cards + 1 for the card backs (if you want to glue them on or print double-sided).
Soon, we’llWe've also released a revised version (1.1) of the rulebook. It might be a bit overdeveloped for a filler game, but we really want to make it as clear as possible. If you’ve downloaded and tried the game, please send us your feedback! We’ll be eternally grateful, and who knows… the next painter could be a caricature of you! 😄
Thank you so much!
